If you wish to purchase a user license via Kagi, or for some reason you wish to purchase a user license via PayPal without using the link in the software (and don't mind waiting a bit for the key), then here's what to do:
Non-Immediate Delivery
of the Activation Key
for Kagi Purchasers
- Download the trial version.
- Install it.
- Run it; a window appears with three buttons.
- Click on the first button to go to a page advising you as to how to purchase a user license.
- Make the purchase.
- Wait for a message from us telling you that your purchase has been registered.
- When you get this, run the software; the window appears again.
- Click on the second button; this takes you to a web page.
- Enter your purchase email address and click on the 'Submit' button.
- Check your email; a message will soon appear containing the activation key.
- Highlight the activation key and copy it to the clipboard (a.k.a. the ClipBook).
- The window is still open (or run the software again if not); click on the third button.
As noted previously, it is possible for the message with the activation key to be sent immediately upon completion of your purchase if purchasing via PayPal.
Having completed the 12th step, the software is now activated (that is, fully-functional). These steps are explained in more detail below.
- Download the trial or demo version.
This is limited in some way. On each product page there is a link to download the installation program for the trial or demo version.
- Install the software.
What is downloaded via the download page is an executable installer program (e.g., edc_setup.exe) which is contained in a ZIP file (e.g., edc_setup.zip). Locate this (using Windows Explorer) after downloading, and unzip the ZIP file to obtain the executable. Run this (by double-clicking on the program icon) to begin the installation process. After this is completed you can run the program from the Windows Start | Programs menu.
Note to Windows XP, 2000 and Vista users: The installation program must be run from an admin account (that is, an account with administrator privileges) because it installs the Visual Basic system files. No other files are written to any system folder. (More info here.)
- Run the software; a window appears with three buttons.
If, for now, you are mainly interested in seeing how the software looks and getting an idea of what it can do then you can just close this window (you can return to it via the 'Activate this software' button on the main screen).
- Purchase the license.
Once your chosen payment processor has validated your purchase they send us a message informing us of this. We then register your purchase in our online database. It takes between 10 minutes and 24 hours (depending on your timezone, time of day and other factors) between your purchase and our registering it.
- Wait for a message from us telling you that your purchase has been registered.
As soon as your purchase is registered we send you a confirmation by email. This directs you to a web page on our site where you can download the trial version of the program, if you have not already done so.
It sometimes happens that a customer's spam filter is overly aggressive and will kill our message, even though we can receive theirs. If you do not receive an activation key (or a reply to a message sent to us) within 24 hours then check your spam folder, or write to us with (or from) an alternative email address.
- When you get our message, run the software; the window appears again.
- Click on the second button.
![]()
- This takes you to a web page.
Give your name and the email address (without name) used when you purchased the license. If you want the activation key sent to a different email address then you can specify a different address for this (but you must still enter your purchase email address). Then click on the 'Submit' button.
- Check your email; a message will soon appear containing the activation key, which will look like this:
WHabwynotqWDZQ6ZT8SOzguuO8A2M
- Highlight the activation key and copy it to the clipboard.
Highlight the activation key and press Control-C to copy it to the clipboard (in Windows XP this is now called the clipBook). It is sufficient to highlight any block of text which contains the activation key.
- If the window is still open click on the third button.
If the window is not still open then click on the 'Activate this software' button.
If the software is not running, then run it. In any of these three cases the software will get the activation key from the clipboard.
The software is now activated (that is, fully-functional), and normally you will not need to activate the software (but keep the email message containing it, just in case).
If you make a major hardware change then you may have to request a new activation key, which can be done in the same way as described above.
This assumes that the PC on which you wish to use the software is connected to the net so that you can obtain the activation key as described above. If you wish to use the software on a machine which is not so connected then contact us and we will tell you how we can calculate the activation key for you.
If (after copying the activation key to the clipboard) you get a message saying that the activation key is not correct then either (a) you made a slight error when copying the key from the email message (so best to do it again), (b) the key was obtained by requesting it from a different machine or (c) the key was obtained by submitting to us a machine signature from a different machine.
