Automatic Operation of Hermetic File Monitor

You can specify that a folder be checked at a certain time, and optionally at regular intervals thereafter. This can be done either when adding a folder or when editing it.

There is no practical limit on the number of folders which can be monitored (automatically or otherwise) at any one time, though if many folders are being automatically monitored then the times of checking should not all be at once.

Suppose you have added a folder to be checked, then clicking on the 'Edit folder shown' button brings up a window such as:

If you wish to update automatically the digital signatures of files in this folder at 6 a.m. each day and then have this folder checked automatically at 9 a.m. and every hour afterwards (until midnight) then check the boxes as follows:

Or if you don't wish to update automatically the digital signatures of files in this folder each day but you wish to have this folder checked automatically at 9 a.m. and every four hours afterwards (until midnight), with an automatic update if any file has been been modified (or any file has been added or deleted) then check the boxes as follows:

Finally click on the 'Confirm' button. The window will close and you will be asked if you wish to update the digital signatures of the files in this folder (and optionally in subfolders) now.

When automatic updating or checking is set then, when the stated time (according to the system clock) is reached, a confirmation window will appear:

If you take no action then in 15 seconds the folder will be checked. If you need to consider then click on the 'Stop countdown' button.

A report is always written to a report file, which is unique to this folder and is not related to the report file (if any) which is specified at the main screen. This file can be viewed or deleted when the folder is edited.

A few things to note about automatic checking of folders:
