Indexing and Searching the Local Files of a Website

Many websites allow online searching of their content. But to search the local HTML files (that is, the files on your PC which you upload to the server) is something different. You may want to find a word or a phrase in your local files, but either (a) you can't do an online search of your website because it does not have a search facility, (b) it has it but you aren't online, (c) not all of your local files are indexed by the search facility (if it exists) or (d) not all of your local files are uploaded to the server.

Index Files Search Words allows you to index every word in every (non-excluded) file among your local website files and then search those files when you need to. For example, the local files of this Hermetic Systems website were indexed. There were 501 indexable files (files with special letters, and several other files, were excluded). The total size of the indexed files was 5.33 MB. Indexing was completed in less than two minutes, and resulted in 23,183 searchable words. The size of the index file produced was 502 KB and that of the data file was 11.1 MB.

An all-words search for "lunar week calendar", with no limit on the number of extracts, returned a list of files found (42) in one second without generation of an HTML report, and in six seconds with a report. An exact-phrase search for that phrase returned a list of files found (13) in four seconds without generation of a report, and in seven seconds with a report. A larger website, with 1070 files, totalling 19.55 MB, was indexed in about 11 minutes, resulting in 56,403 searchable words. The size of the index file produced was 2,020 KB and that of the data file was 57.6 MB. An all-words search for three words returned a list of files found (7) in one second without generation of an HTML report, and in three seconds with a report. An exact-phrase search for those three words returned a list of files found (3) in one second without generation of a report, and in four seconds with a report.
