The software entitled Index Files Search Words Lite is for indexing, and subsequently rapidly searching (repeatedly), a single text file, HTML file, XML file or a file of a similar type on a hard disk, memory stick, CD-ROM or similar storage medium.

Index Files Search Words Lite does not simply search a file for character strings. It indexes every word in a given file, and the file can then be searched for any word in a given set of search words, or all words in that set, or an exact phrase. A report can then be generated (in either text or HTML format) showing the occurrences of the search words (or search phrase) in context.

This software is freeware. It is a simplified version of the shareware program Index Files Search Words, which does the same thing for multiple files in multiple folders.

Index Files Search Words Lite is capable of indexing a file over 1 MB in size, and containing over 50,000 different words. Even with that number of different words a search returns results in a few seconds. The results (presented as extracts from the file, containing the search words) are displayed by the software and can also be displayed in a page in your default web browser.

Note that this software does not act on MS-Word .doc files or Adobe .pdf files (which are binary files) or on HTML files on a server.
