How Old is the Hermetic Systems Website?

This Hermetic Systems website first went online in July 1997. This page looks at some of the early pages as archived in the Wayback Machine.

This website first existed on IHUG in New Zealand. Unfortunately the Wayback Machine did not save any pages from this website, but "Hermetic Systems" is listed among IHUG's clients at this page (saved on 1998-02-07, 158 KB).

During 1998-1999 the website was established on two servers, one in the US and one in Europe. Requesting http://hermetic.nofadz.com at the Wayback Machine reveals that it has a copy of the home page on the then US server as saved on Jan 25, 1999 (with only some of the button graphics at the top still displayable). Clicking on Origin brings up a page (last modified on 2000-07-09) entitled About the Author which states that "In 1997 he [Peter Meyer] created this Hermetic Systems web site." Clicking on Cryptosystem ME5 and then on the graphic German version (both last modified 1999-12-18) shows that at this time Hermetic Systems was providing English and German versions of cryptographic software.

But even older archived pages can be found.

Requesting http://serendipity.magnet.ch/hermetic/index.html at the Wayback Machine reveals that it has a copy of the page as saved on Dec 05, 1998 (without the button graphics at the top). As it says, though saved on 1998-12-05, this page was last modified on 1998-11-17. Clicking on Origin brings up a page (last modified on 1999-09-18) entitled About the Author which states that "In July 1997 he [Peter Meyer] created this Hermetic Systems web site."

Back at the home page the link for C Function Libs brings up a page which was last modified on 1998-03-16.

From the home page the link for Maya Calendar Software brings up a page which was last modified on 1998-01-31. The link on this page for Software User Manual: Maya and Goddess Calendars brings up a page last modified on 1997-12-25, and the link for Benutzerhinweise zur Software Maya Kalender und Kalender der Göttinnen brings up a page last modified on the same date.

This shows that already in December 1997 Hermetic Systems was offering to the world both English and German versions of calendrical software.
