Immediate Delivery
of the Activation Key
for Share-it Purchasers

  1. Download the ZIP file containing the installation program for the trial or demo version.
  2. Unzip that file and run the .exe file to install the software.
  3. Run the software; an 'Activate this software' window appears with three buttons.
  4. Click on the first button ('Purchase a user license'); this should bring up in your web browser a page with one or more purchasing options, including Share-it.
  5. Click on the Share-it link; this takes you to the Share-it order page.
  6. Enter your 'machine signature' (see below) and complete your purchase.
  7. An email message will then be sent to your purchase email address containing the activation key.
  8. Highlight the activation key (either in the web page or in the email message) and copy it to the clipboard (a.k.a. the ClipBook).
  9. The 'Activate this software' window should still be open (if not then run the software again); click on the third button ('Get activation key from the clipboard').

Having completed the last step, the software is now activated (that is, fully-functional). For a fuller explanation of each step read on.

  1. Download the trial or demo version.

This is limited in some way. On each product page there is a link to download the installation program for the trial or demo version.

  2. Install the software.

What is downloaded via the download page is an executable installer program (e.g., edc_setup.exe) which is contained in a ZIP file (e.g., edc_setup.zip). Locate this (using Windows Explorer) after downloading, and unzip the ZIP file to obtain the executable. Run this (by double-clicking on the program icon) to begin the installation process. After this is completed you can run the program from the Windows Start | Programs menu.

Note to Windows XP, 2000 and Vista users: The installation program must be run from an admin account (that is, an account with administrator privileges) because it installs the Visual Basic system files. No other files are written to any system folder. (More info here.)

  3. Run the software; a window appears with three buttons.

If, for now, you are mainly interested in seeing how the software looks and getting an idea of what it can do then you can just close this window (you can return to it via the 'Activate this software' button on the main screen).

  4. Click on the 'Purchase a user license' button.

After (but not before) you have examined the trial or demo version and are reasonably sure that it will do what you need it to do then click on the first button to go to a web page with one or more purchasing options, including Share-it.

If, after having looked through the online user manual, you are still unsure as to whether the software is exactly what you need then you can ask us.

  5. Click on the Share-it link.

Click on the Share-it link in the web page to go to the Share-it order page and fill in the required information.

  6. Enter your 'machine signature' and complete your purchase.

During the order process you will see something like this:

Your machine signature is needed to generate your activation key. You get it as follows:

The 'Activate this software' window in the software should still be open (if not then run the software again).

Double-click on the text window and the machine signature will appear, for example:

Highlight this and copy it to the clipboard (using 'Copy' or Control-C). Paste this (using 'Paste' or Control-V) into the 'Machine signature' box, as in:

  7. At the completion of your purchase an email message will be sent to you which contains your activation key. This will be something like:

    WHabwynotqWDZQ6ZT8SOzguuO8A2M

The email message also directs you to a web page on our site where you can request the activation key at a later time if that should be necessary.

  8. Highlight the activation key and copy it to the clipboard.

Highlight the activation key in the email message and copy it to the clipboard (in Windows XP this is called the clipBook). It is sufficient to highlight any block of text which contains the activation key.

  9. If the 'Activate this software' window is still open click on the third button.

If the window is not still open then click on the 'Activate this software' button.

If the software is not running, then run it. In any of these three cases the software will get the activation key from the clipboard.

The software is now activated (that is, fully-functional), and normally you will not need to activate the software (but keep the email message containing it, just in case).
